heavenly food!

I love food. Not simply just food, but good food. Need I say more? I am one of the many Malaysians who subscribe to the notion, "kita hidup untuk makan".hehehehe... yes, we live to eat.don't we? It may sound a lil' misguided but food is good! One thing that I noticed about Malaysians is that they will always greet a person by asking the crucial question.....
"Sudah makan?"
Everywhere we go, people will always associate greetings with food. and these welcoming invitations, such as "Jom makan", "Jemputlah makan"or just simply "Makanlah" is
synonymous to the Malaysian culture. I dont think there's any other people in the world who love food as much as Malaysians do. (okay, am exaggerating..)

Kampung Baru.....

And one of my fav spot to go for supper is of course, the
legendary Kg Baru! Situated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Kampung Baru is the melting pot of various cuisines and visiting there is a must for anyone who love food! There's an amalgam of cuisines which mostly derive from Indonesia, Thailand, and of course, Malaysia, though some of the restaurants (okay, stalls lah or gerai, 'restaurant' is too far-stretching to describe the place there) serves Western 'cuisine', that has been Malaysian-ised of course. It is an Asian version of the food market in Marrakesh, Morocco. It is the food mecca for hungry KL-lites especially those who have slaved their days away working in the hustle and bustle of KL. And after a day's of hard work, they will head to this food paradise, in search of comfort food, and is enticed by the delicious aromas of satays, grilled chicken, congees, a variety of fried noodles and rice, ramly burgers, tom yams, steamboat and grilled seafood, and the list goes on and on and on; all intermingled together that will definitely water one's mouth! **drools**

So last night,
Heikal(H) and his friend, I shall call him Luffman, (yes, the tobacco), decided to pay a visit to Kg Baru after a longggg period of time of not going there for me and H, and it was the first for Luffman! Once a resident of the U.S of A, he is now back to Malaysia for good and he was clueless and wondering what was the hype surrounding Kg Baru. Seizing this opportunity, we bawak him jalan2 around KL, much to his delight.

Going to Kg Baru
on a Saturday night was no easy-feat, since many KL-lites chose to flock at their beloved food hub, thus, we had to 'wade' through traffic jams and impossibly wonky traffic lights.benci!

L : ohhhhh... so this is Kampung Baru~~
Me : Yes, welcome to Kg Baru!tp x baru pon..

L : I have a relative who is staying here, but I dunno which house lah.

H : Sini byk umah dowh...

L : Aku rasa dia pon berniaga kat sini jual soto!

H : mane?????bole la mkn free!!

Me : *eyes rolling*

After 20 minutes of making 2 circuits, we finally found a parking space, and we headed to..........?
where else, the legendary
Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa! Famous for its sumptuous coconut rice, served with deep fried anchovies, boiled eggs and cucumbers, there's a variety of side dishes that one can devour, such as sambal sotong, paru goreng, telur goreng, rendang ayam and daging, bergedel (which is spelled "pergedel" there) and many more! We were spoiled for choices.

I settled for a plate of nasi lemak with sambal sotong and H and Luffman chose the paru goreng n sambal sotong. "Let's dig in!" and we did!

I chewed the nasik lemak and all its condiments, tasting and savoring the taste of the glutinous rice but wait a minute....
it tasted different!! I looked at my plate, disappointment was written all over.

Me : It tastes different lah.
H : I think so too. Tapi I lapar, so I tak kisah lah.

L : Aku tak tau lah whether its tastes different or not as this is my first time,
but its
nice!
Me : Recently i went to it's other branch in Tmn Melati, pon not as nice
!mahal gile plak tue!
H :Owner dia dah meninggal ker?

Me : Huh?I dunno..why?

H : Maybe the owner dah meninggal, and org lain handle,so dats y it taste different kot. Kat
tempat dia lagi
satu tu pon x sedap ker?
Me : Well,Im not so sure if the owner dah meninggal, but probably not.and yes, its other branch pon tak berapa sedap la..
L : Ntah, aku rasa sedap jer~ **chomp,chomp,chomp**

B
ut as H said, we were hungry and so we managed to finish it all up and we washed it down with iced tea. It was already 12 am but the place only seemed to be more congested. As I watched the people scouring around in search of good food, I was comforted by the view of KLCC. It looked really bright against the stark midnight sky, with mist hovering around it. A kampung in the middle of a metropolitan city. A blatant difference of the old and the new. And as I was admiring the once world's tallest building...

H : I nak beli jagung bakar.
Me : Gi la beli.

**H skips happily to a stall opposite the Nasi lemak Antarabangsa's ke
dai**

H returned with a reddish pink plastic bag, contained his fav snack. But instead of eating it immediately, he wrapped the plastic even tighter.

Me : Kenape x makan?
H : ntah.....*blush*

Me : u malu ke?

L : hek elehhhhhhh....mkn je lahhh~~

H : Boleh ke makan sini? **looking around**

Me & L: Boleeeehhhhh.....

H : *takes out th
e grilled corn on the cob*besar giler!
Me : OMG..ini jagung ke aper?

L : aper. (huh, trying to be funny)

A
s H took a bite, of the grilled corn on the cob, I saw several by passers was looking at him savoring the corn cob. And a dude actually swallowed his saliva looking at the humongous corn, while 2 kids who happened to pass by tugged at their mom's shirt, asking to buy the delish corn. H ate happily when he learned that people were buying the corn thanks to him when they saw him relishing the half-charred, buttered and kaya-ed corn.

***

**where do i start?**

After having having a few more drinks, we headed home. Although my love for the Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa is slowly diminishing, however the taste buds varies with different people and plus there is
plenty more that Kg Baru has to offer!

***Look at Luffman's plate!licin lincau!***
